Flames Of Fury

Crowolf and I had a chat this mourning and the subject of my drag racing days came up.

Here is a photo of my 1964 Plymouth Fury that I raced in the early 80's.

See photo with sound clip below.

Easter Sunday Shutdown

In my earlier days I was a thrill seeker extraordinaire, always exploring my limits in every way possible. Back around 1988, my roomate had asked me to do a smokey burnout in a car that he traded me for a snowmobile. A friend of his was over and he wanted to show him what the car was capable of.

I had drag raced this car for years and was a pro at doing long smokey burnouts in it. I would tap the brake in first gear, get the tires spinning, release the brake, punch the throttle, and when the engine red-lined, I hit second gear and left the pedal to the metal for as long as I dared to do so.

My record burnout in this car was approximately 1/8th mile long. I clearly remember that day. A new roomate was egging me on and saying " I bet you can't even scratch the tires on this thing" Back in those days those were fightin' words, and it was time to put on a show to prove em' wrong! I followed my procedure and laid down the longest blackest trails of double rubber. We had to roll down the windows afterward because there was so much smoke inside the car we could barely see ahead of us.

My CB handle back in those days should have been Smokey Burnout. (This would have fit me on more than one level!)

Imagine this scenario: The audio portion of the recording below was taken in a quiet surburban neighborhood on Easter Sunday mourning around 10 am. These days I cannot imagine pulling off such a stunt without having the police showing up! I get a belly laugh every time I hear my roomates reaction to what he saw escpecially when one of his friends asks him "here is your tires Gordy; you wanna paste em' back on?

Furious Fury Engine ( added 1/16/10)

The sound of this engine was music to my ears in those days.

Ride The Sky (From Cars To Bicycle Competition)

Auto racing was too expensive and mountain bikes were a new thing.......

Training for The Championship

Then I decided to train for the Midwest Trials Championship.

Hey Champ Do This.....

Trials is a unique sport...Setup a nearly impossible course to ride and turn us loose. Hey Dude.....

Let's see you go over this spool and through the side of this van and go out the back.....

So I did what all good wild men do.

Into the van I go.............

And out of the back

How about a car ride!

Dude That's My Car!

Yeah dude..... What a great riding car!

Nature Time

Now I like to spend time getting close to nature. Here is one of my deerest friends.

True Magic

Nature has a way of getting close to me too. For a while I actually had animal forms come out of my ice cubes.

The photo below is one of my favorites. This is so because I had a dream one time where I was told:

"True magic is pulling rabbits out of hats where rabbits have never been and where hats will never be."

Rabbits out of ........What the??........
